Due to the non-availability of several senior players, I took the opportunity to introduce some members of the Under 18 squad.

Morning Foursomes – Gloucestershire 4.5 Devon 0.5

Although we eventually lost the Foursomes, at once stage after 14 holes had been played, the score could have been 3-2 either way.  Ryan Pope and James Reed were our only success when they halved their match.

 Afternoon Singles – Gloucestershire 7 Devon 3

Most of the matches were tight up until the last four or five holes and at that point our boys seemed to lose their momentum. Our successes were Ryan Pope and his brother Jack, who beat the South West Counties' individual Stroke Play champion, Laurie Potter, on his home course. James Thompson halved his match as did 14 year old James Reed.

I was very pleased with the way all the team members played and heartened to see the strong team spirit that was obvious on the day. I know that the lads will have gained valuable experience and are now aware of the level they have to aim for to be a regular member of the first team.

My thanks go to the Green Staff for the great condition of the course and to the Catering and Bar Staff at Cotswold Hills Golf Club for their attention whilst we were there.  A special thank you to James Latham, the Club Professional, for all his help over the 2 days.
